Grootyvision is a creation of esteemed Eurovision YouTuber Groot from Sweden.

He has been publishing videos since 2014, mostly about the Eurovision Song Contest and associated national finals, and had built a dedicated following. In April 2023, he decided it would be a good idea to stream old Eurovision contests (starting with 1980) and invite his followers to watch with him. After each watchalong, each viewer was given the chance to cast votes for 10 songs in the traditional Eurovision fashion.

The concept became hugely popular, so upon reaching 1990 it was decided to complete all of the older contests. Those of us involved in these sessions not only enjoyed the videos and Groot's company, but also that of the other viewers. Once the 50s, 60s and 70s were done and Groot was off on his holidays, it was clear a community had developed that yearned to have more contact than just the live chat of a video feed. So the Grootyvision Discord was born, which now has more than 500 unique members.

Upon Groot's return, we started watching all remaining shows in order, from 1991, with an improved voting system and ultimately this website. The Discord server provided a valuable backdrop to discuss the watchalongs before and afterwards. Since the 2004 shows, we have also watched all the semi-finals, and adjusted the lineup of each subsequent final depending on who we voted for as qualifiers. This does totally confuse new people!

During Eurovision National Finals season, we took a break from the old contests and watched 22 countries' national selections together, with voting. We have now resumed our journey through the years. What will happen when we get up to date? Watch this space...
